About the Workshop:
In this class students will be introduced to Uyghur dance. Class starts with an introduction to the Sanam rhythm. We will then dive into body postures, arms, hands, and foot positions central to Uyghur dance. The class will also introduce students to neck and hand movements, arm combinations and footwork.⁠ All movements will be put into a combination for students to practice. ⁠ ⁠


Bio:⁠
Toronto-based professional dancer Hally Issac, started her early professional dance training at the Xinjiang Arts Conservatory Dance Department in western China, where she trained professionally in dance styles such as classical ballet, Uyghur dance, and Central Asian folk dances such as Mongolian, Chinese classical, Tibetan and Kazakh dance. After completing her degree, she became the lead dancer of the professional performing ensemble of the institution, performing widely all over China for five years. She also completed a diploma in choreography at the Multicultural Arts University Dance Department in Beijing, where she trained intensively in modern Uyghur dance under Mohtar Sabir, one of the most well-known choreographers in China. There she started performing every night all over the capital city of Beijing. She also performed for national CCTV China, and then was invited to perform in Canada. The event was so successful that she decided to make Toronto in Canada her new home.
